1. DELL ACQUIRES SONICWAL

Dell, the third largest maker of personal computers has agreed to buy SonicWall, a network security and
data-protection tools vendor. Last month, the company hired CA Inc. Chief Executive Officer, John Swainson to oversee the software push. He indicated that “clients need to feel secure moving data to the so-called cloud, which allows them to store data on the Internet.”

2. END OF ROAD FOR WIN XP

As Windows XP completed its 11th year, Microsoft has confirmed that there are no plans to extend the
April 2014 retirement of the highly popular desktop operating system. Windows XP was introduced back
in 2001. Windows 7 and later on this year Windows 8 will be the OS for not only desktops, laptops,
tablets, but also mobile devices. No more security patches will be provided by Microsoft after April 2014 for Win XP.

3. SYSTEMS DESIGN CERTIFIED BIZSAFE ENTERPRISE LEVEL 3

Our Finance/Admin Manager Mr. Spencer Wong has attended the workshop for CEO/Top Management (bizSAFE Level 1) on 26 May 2011. This is conducted by Avanta Global Pte Ltd (sponsored by our customer, Excel Precast Pte Ltd, a bizSAFE partner).

To help Systems Design a workplace safe for all our employees, we nominated Alicia Sim, a Risk Management (RM) Champion to attend the bizSAFE level 2 RM course on 25 & 26 August 2011. She has successfully chart out the RM Implementation Plan for the company and SD is recognized a bizSAFE Level 2 on 26 August 2011.

In order for Systems Design to fully implement the RM plan and prepare for bizSAFE level 3, we engaged an independent MOM – approval workplace safety and health (WSH) auditor to audit the effectiveness of our RM. On 16 January 2012, SD RM has been audited to the statutory requirements under the WSH Auditor.

4. PRINTING GRAPHICAL CHARTS

The Meditech Lab system can now print graphical charts for allergy results. Most of the graphical packages available nowadays are tied to the PC or a database module. When we were approached to do the results of allergy tests graphically, the challenge was how to convert the numeric results into a table for graphical presentation. The final approach implemented is to download the results in some parsable format to a PC directory. Another job running on the PC will pick up the file and do the printing in graphical format like below.
