  1.   HANDLING NEW GST

With effect from 1st January 2003, the GST (Goods & Services Tax) rate will be increased from 3% to 4% and from 1st January 2004, to 5%.  All GST-registered businesses is to be prepared for this change in rate.  IRAS rules and guidelines are required to be observed in the transition to the new rate.  Systems Design software packages need some adjustment to cater for the implementation of the new rate.  Customers on software maintenance will be getting this update free of charge.

  1.   KLENCO SWITCHES OVER TO WINDOWS NT

Klenco Singapore has been a Systems Design’s customer since 1981 using Data General and Motorola systems, has now cut over to a Windows NT system running on a Compaq server.  From Oct 1, the invoices and delivery orders are now printed from the new system.  There are still some hiccups on the new system but they are already looked into.  Klenco hopes to duplicate this system in the other countries that they are operating next year.

6         HITACHI IS SERIOUS ABOUT COLORS

Hitachi-Koki which some years ago purchased DataProducts, the line printer company from USA, has re-organised.  Now called Hitachi Printing Solutions, the company is serious about the color laser printer market.  Some of our users have noticed the advertisements in Computer Times and other media.  The Hitachi A4 model 6C4N was also on display in the SITEX 2002 Show held at Changi Expo.

     7.       TIPS & TECHNIQUES ON COLOR LASER PRINTING

As the color laser printer price drops, the volume of sales has increased.  But although many users know a fair bit on ink jet printer, not many know about color laser printing.  This article attempts to fill the knowledge gap.

For a start, the technique used for in a color laser printer is different from an ink jet printer.  The ink jet printer uses water-based ink to put on the media.  The color laser printer uses toner and it uses heat, oil and pressure to fuse to toner to the media.  A laser output is waterproof as such.
