6.       HITACHI IS SERIOUS ABOUT COLORS 

Hitachi-Koki which some years ago purchased DataProducts, the line printer company from USA, has re-organised.  Now called Hitachi  Printing Solutions, the company is serious about the color laser printer market.  Some of our users have noticed the advertisements in Computer Times and other media.  The Hitachi A4 model 6C4N was also on display in the SITEX 2002 Show held at Changi Expo. 

Hitachi Printing Solutions has been in the printer manufacturing business for many years.  All along the company sold the engines to other vendors like IBM, Lexmark, Minolta-QMS, Epson who would then sell the final product.  Just like Canon that has been supplying Hewlett Packard with the various laser engines, Canon has some years ago started selling direct. 

Hitachi Printing Solutions see that the future will be in the color laser printers.  Just like many years ago, there was the black and white TV and color TV.  Today, the black and white is virtually non-existent.  To start off, Hitachi wants a bigger share of the A4 color laser printer market.  In December, the price was going for S$1,699 with trade-in.  In the coming months, there will be more activities by Systems Design on the Hitachi printer products.
